My wife and I are spending a week in and around Hungry Horse the second week of September. It is starting to look like my fishing time will be limited but I hope to get one half-day float in and maybe some walk & wade fishing. Have never been to the area and am looking for some suggestions. First question: What floats would you recommend for a novice solo oarsman (wife to run the shuttle)?

We might be taking kayaks and mine is a SOT. While not as maneuverable as sit-ins it is a good fishing platform. I used this kayak on moving water a couple of times in Florida but never on a trout river. Mostly fished for bass on small lakes and ponds. Second question: If I want to fish a river, can I do it from a SOT kayak or should I plan on also packing my personal pontoon?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Don't bother floating if you're on the upstream end of the reservoir. Lots of good wade fishing to willing cuts.
