I was in Grants Pass, OR over the weekend and found an hour or so to run down to the river and hunt for bugs. I found these guys.

I'll Be back in town in two weeks and I'm hoping these big boys will be hatching upstream at the holy water.

    Damn I love stonefly time!

At one time, before the Spokane River became totally polluted with raw sewage and heavy metals from the Silver Valley in Idaho, the stonefly hatches were so immense they sometimes covered the streets of Spokane adjacent to the river.

One account describes the difficulty the electric trolley cars had stopping or gaining traction due to smashed stonefly bodies on the rails.
