  1. The public is invited to a free presentation by Jeff June, whose organization has recovered and removed 4,200 derelict nets and 2,000 pots in Washington waters. The meeting is at 6 pm Thursday, January10 at Tower Lanes Banquet Room in Tacoma, sponsored by Puget Sound Flyfishers.

June, a marine biologist and partner in Natural Resources Consultants, has been manager of Northwest Straits Commission Derelict Fishing Gear Project for the past 10 years. The Commission’s initiative has concentrated on methods for finding and removal of derelict gear around Puget Sound, but has recently expanded its efforts to include neglected nets on coastal rivers. The lower Chehalis River is currently a test site. Northwest Straits Foundation is working with the Quinault Indian Nation and The Nature Conservancy on this project.

A dinner at a cost of $15 is offered prior to the presentation and the regular monthly meeting of the Puget Sound Flyfishers. Activities begin at 6PM.
