I was scheduled to go to the Metolius this coming weekend for some fishing. I have heard that everyone in that area has been evacuated... Please tell me this is not true. I love that river. Any additional info or links to the fires there would be appreciated.
Best,
Gris
Check out http://www.geomac.gov and go to the wildfire mapping link for up to date info. Unfortunately it won't give you info about the river, so for that I would call the fly shop(s) in the area.
According to the site above, the fire looks a fair distance away, but I don't know which way its moving or how much of it they have contained.
They had evacuated everyone out of the Camp Sherman area a few days ago. As of yesterday, residents were allowed to return for 3 hours (from 10:00 to 1:00 I believe) to retrieve belongings. However, I think the area is still under an evacuation notice. Also, as of yesterday, Highway 20 over Santiam Pass was closed due to the fire.
Hopefully, they will get a handle on the fire and turn it away from that area. My family has been heading to that area for a number of years and I'm hoping on fishing the Metolius the first weekend in October. Hope you can still go.
When I was young I had some friends named that(Griswald). You didn't come from West Park out of Bremerton did you. Just asking as I haven't heard that name for a long time.
