I was flipping through the Estuary Flyfisher the other day in the flyshop and remember reading that chum fishing can be good at night. He didn't really expound on it. Anyone have any experience with this?
As far as I know, it is illegal to fish for salmon after dark at this time of year in most rivers in WA. The period closed varies from river to river, and even for different stretches on the same river. Flipping thru the regs, I did notice, however, that the "night closure" ended Oct. 31 in a few rivers, so you may be able to find a spot where night fishing for chums is legal. Also, Hoodsport hatchery zone in the canal is listed as having "night closure." Read the regs with eagle eyes on this, just to be safe, as the regs vary by locale. Good luck. - Jimbo
Oops! Closer inspection of the regs tells me that there are actually quite a few rivers that don't list "night closure." Just the ones I fish in! - Jimbo
I still appreciate it. Something I had not thought of.
