Floated from Sutter Creek to Concrete over two days down the Skagit. Where's that familiar November rain? The river was unusually low for this time of year, but we managed to find a few fish here and there. I caught a smaller Dolly and a nice sea-run just above Rockport--both on the ever-effective black/orange-egg sucking leech. There were good numbers of Chum rolling along the Sauk Bar later in the afternoon and I managed to hook half a dozen before dark fishing a size 6 chartreuse/black or chartreuse/purple strip leech. Every year I completely forget just how hard these guys fight. I've got a nasty cut from where my rapidly peeled backing burned right through a fleece glove and into my fingertip--not to mention a few bruised knuckles. The second morning we encountered very few salmon between Rockport and Concrete, but I hooked a bruiser of a Dolly on a white bunny leech. Though a little rain would certainly bring more fish, I couldn't fault the cold, clear weather and was hardly disappointed with two-dozen bald eagles we observed as we drifted down the river.
