Looking at picking up a new pair of waders for the steelhead season. Have narrowed it down between two.
Simms G3 guide stockingfoots or the Redington SonicPro Zip front. I'm a tall guy at 6'7 so I have to take into account the tall sizes.

Looking for thoughts and/or experience with these products. Have owned Simms waders the last 6 yrs but have couple of good buddies that say all good things about the SonicPros. I'll admit that I am drawn to the zipper front for ease of access.

I would say that they are both good companies to purchase waders from. I am sure more people are going to say Simms though. What I would do is hit up the local fly shop and try both on and decide which is most comfortable.

I've gotten a ton miles out of my fairly affordable Simms freestones, but every time I need to piss in the middle of a winter downpour I wish I had a zipper on my waders.

Two seasons now on the Redingtons with the zipper, and I've been really pleased with them. No complaints.

I own both of these waders and while they're both solid, I'd take the Simms any day over the Redington waders. I've had to return one pair of Sonic Pro's after less than a year and the neoprene boot fit leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. They are both nice, but the G3's seem to be better for me.

That said, both of these waders are being discontinued/upgraded come January/February so look out for the best possible deal before buying. I'd wait for them to start going on discount if you can, because you can bet that both of them will...

The new Sonic Pro's will have a different brand waterproof zipper that is supposedly an upgrade (I think it's the same one that Simms uses). Good luck man and let's get out and fish again this Fall/Winter!

Probably cannot go wrong with either of them. Sounds like you are not a normal fit. I know Simms has numerous sizes for hard to fit people, but I am not sure about the Redingtons? That may be the deciding factor.

I got the Orvis Silver Sonic waders on an impulse this summer. I am incredibly happy with them. I won't really know for another year or so about the sonic seams' durability, but so far they are the best wader for the money.

I've got the regular sonic pro's and have gone through 2 pair...Redington is pretty awesome with replacing them, so I keep going back. These front zips at that cost really have me wanting to get a pair...but I don't need 2! Decisions decisions. :D

I'm in the same boat! I'll stick with Redington because I can drive over to the factory for free replacements, but those zipper fronts are tempting. Problem is I just bought the Sonic Pros last season.

I got the Redingtons at the beginning of last year. They fit me well and so far no problems. And I love the zipper.

Glad to see you found a sale pair. At that price, you can't go wrong. The features are great.

I've worn the Sonic Pros for two winters now, and recently have experienced a lot of "seep" leaks, where it seems the waterproof fabric fails with holes smaller than pinhole leaks, but water beads up through them enough to make for damp legs after a day's fishing. Same thing happened with my Dan Baileys, but they wore longer before this condition developed. Not sure if I should see if Redington will replace them or not.
