Southwest Florida is a great destination. I have done a lot of fishing near Boca Grande and down around Naples and it is hard to beat.

If you are set on international travel, Mexico, Belize and the Bahamas are probably some of the more affordable choices.

    Congratulations :)

I'd 2nd Belize and Mexico. I took my wife to El Pescador in Belize for our honeymoon back in '08. Even though she's not really into fishing she absolutely loved it. While not exactly "cheap", we saved quite a bit with their "Two-fer" deal which I think they still offer during the summer low season. Not sure they still do this, but they kindly offered to upgrade us to a villa for no extra charge since it was our honeymoon, but only if one was available when we checked in. Fortunately one was. I can't say enough nice things about El Pescador. They make you feel like family from the minute you step off the dock.

If you're not set on staying at a resort or hotel you can save a ton by renting a house or condo (we used VRBO). Although, some condos are associated with full service resorts which is what we did on our trip to Baja in April. That was an anniversary trip which ranked right up there with Belize - and was much more affordable. Booking that same unit through the resort would have be at least twice the cost. Haven't been to the Bahamas but we're considering a family vacation there doing the rental thing. So far it doesn't look horribly expensive.

    Here's a taste of Belize:

Congrats and hope you have a great time wherever you choose!

You know that part in the Preamble to the Constitution; "ensure domestic tranquility"? Now you know what it means.....

Good choice! El Pescador? There are other cool non-fishing activities such as touring Mayan ruins, world class diving/snorkeling, jungle tours etc.... Of course just sitting on the beach with a cold rum drink is hard to beat. The "Panty ripper" is a local favorite made with fresh pineapple juice. Yum.

Oh, and BTW, one minor point but there's no Rooster fishing in Belize that I know of. Bonefish (bazillions of them), Permit, Tarpon, Barracuda, various reef fish, offshore species, and some Snook - yes. Hopefully your wife likes "boat rides" like mine does.

Why has no one done a 'getting divorced!' thread that poses the same question?

Marriage is a balance between reinforcing your wife's poor behavior and getting by.

Best of luck. I just celebrated 13 years. Listen and empathize and you'll do well. Arguments are for learning, not winning.

    Go Sox,

Totally Belize. Been there done that. San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Look up Mario Graniel, flyfishing for Tarpon and bonefish, snorkeling the reef, and diving for lobsters. I'm not kidding. This is the way to go...

Ok, here's something to consider. Have you ASKED her if she really wants to go to a warm climate. If she chose AK, I'd GO to AK. Seriously. Any married guy on here will tell you "Daddy ain't happy if Momma ain't happy". Seriously ask her if she'd prefer to go to Alaska over somewhere like Costa Rica, Hawaii, etc. There's still tours you can do in Alaska that isn't just fishing related. But if she wants to go to Alaska to catch fish, cater to her damned it!!!!! Don't just go off your gut about your fiance (we're guys, are guts are usually wrong when it comes to women lol), give her what she wants and has asked for. Maybe she wants to hook a big king, or go after those monster lake bow's out Illiama. Who knows? Sit her down and ask. If she's set on AK, give it to her. :)
