I'm going tomorrow!!! 2,3,4, or 5WT??? Where is my fishing buddy???
At least a 4wt.
I'll probably hit it in the evening tomorrow.
Forgive the noob question, but are the big, brightly colored rainbows residents of the river, or are they fish moving in from the lake to spawn?
They are resident rainbows & residualized steelhead (adfluvial) that move between the lake and river. Rainbows are done spawning , this happens in March/April.
I just watched some rainbows spawning on Hyalite Creek. Pretty weird, they didn't care that I was standing right there.
As for the Cedar, the big fish seem to come and go. They are up there now because they were spawning recently. They will be up again late summer chowing on sockeye eggs. I recall catching nothing buy 8-14" fish late July through mid August.
Definitely more of those big fish when there is more water in the river.
I got few...there was even 20 min of solid dry fly fishing at twilight!
Now that I am back in town, I need to hit the river. I see from my logs I should be able to hit my normal haunts ... nice
Anyone got any updates??
Fished it tonight, flows spiked back up a bit!
Fished tonight. Wasn't too bad. The first fish I caught made my reel sing and brought me down to my backing. Measured @ 19". That was on my third or fourth cast so I was hoping that it was a sign of things to come. It wasn't. I was able to land 6 or 7 more 8-10" fish over the next couple hours and bailed around 1945.
Love that military time!
Went in morning and had a great day also. Heading back out Monday morning with my bro to see if we can have another great day!
ME TOO!!!!! Possibly the last trip till October 2015...
How were the flows this morning with the recent rains?
