I went out to the upper end of the pavement on RC on Saturday. I wasn't expecting much with a cold front moving in. What a surprise, I saw lots of midges, small stoneflies, olives, and even a few march browns! Fish rose occasionally to the midges but it was nothing worth tying on a gnat for. I decided to go dry-dropper with a smaller stonefly pattern and 6 feet of 6x with a #20Rainbow Warrior. This setup was deadly, the fish must've been gobbling midge pupae all day long. It took me half a day to figure this out, so I ended up going 6 for 10 (3 browns 3 bows) on what would've probably been a double-digit day. So the creek is awake and one of the best options out here for another month or so.
